Up on the Roof

When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space On the roof, it's peaceful as can be
And there, the world below can't bother me
Let me tell you now

When I come home feeling tired and beat
I go up where the air is fresh and sweet
I get away from the hustling crowds
And all that rat race noise down in the street

On the roof's the only place I know
Where you just have to wish to make it so
Let's go up on the roof

At night, the stars put on a show for free
And, darling, you can share it all with me
I keep-a tellin' you

Right smack dab in the middle of town
I found a paradise that's trouble-proof
And if this world starts getting you down
There's room enough for two up on the roof

Trusses are...HERE!!!!!!

Well hello there beautiful!

Dear House that is being built,
Why do you like to tease me so? You said you would have trusses delivered on Monday, but you did not. Your trusses came Tuesday morning. And there they have sat, in the sunlight, all week, looking heavenly. You told me you would start being built on Monday, but today I found out that you lied. We can't continue this relationship if you keep going back on your word. So, Tuesday, house. You better have your trusses go up on Tuesday.
Love,
Me

Trusses are....NOT here!!!!!!!!!!

So, the story goes a little like this....
10:30ish-I called my contact at the lumberyard to inquire on the iJoists, since we needed some information to give the architect, in order for him to give his blessing on the plan change (our drawings showed 2x12s for the floor, but we went with the iJoists) and then I could forward that on to the county. They are sticklers for structural changes from plan being documented and approved.
Anyhow, Eric proceeded to ask me if I was pissed about the bad news. Of course I jumped to the conclusion that I had not yet been told that our trusses would not be delivered as scheduled on Thursday.  I think my exact words were "don't fucking tell me that my trusses aren't being delivered tomorrow." My conclusion was wrong. He said they were delivered this morning!! Great news, right? Wrong. Apparently the truck had been sitting at our site for the last 3 hours, but unable to maneuver our meandering driveway to make it back to the site and drop off the trusses.
DAMMIT!
So I immediately headed over to see if I could bring anything to the table.
11ish-I arrive and the truck is gone. Mike, The Carpenter, is there. At which point, he gives me the bad news...that I already know. He then gives me a little tour of our driveway and all the trees that need to come down, stumps that need to be ground, fence posts that need to be removed and widening that needs to be done. I am beyond mad. But really, more disappointed than mad. Because I don't understand how this wasn't realized when the truss rep was out to measure last week. We took down the trees on the bend, that they said we needed to...I guess they just didn't realize it wouldn't be enough.
The other disappointment was that we were not called the moment (or even within the couple of hours!) that they realized there was a problem. Not that we could have done anything, but it made me feel even more helpless that we weren't involved in the conversation. Unfortunately Mike and I had a heated exchange about this, which mostly ended with both of us giving each other a pass.
12ish-after catching up Alex and him calling the truss rep, a game plan is formed.
12:30ish-I drop off the chainsaws and work gear
3:05-Alex arrives and gets to work, leveling out the stumps
6ish-he finishes
7ish-Excavator calls to meet Alex at the site to discuss what bobcat work needs to be done to widen the drive
10:30-I blog about it.
Our truck sitting in the yard, waiting for another day. So sad.

Inspection #5-Slab Plumbing and The Great Mouse Hunt

Friday we had our slab plumbing inspection. We passed!

We also found out that trusses aren't being delivered until Thursday, so the house roof won't get up til next week. However, we should be working on the outbuilding this weekend.

In the meantime FB Bill has been by to check out the readiness for concrete on the porch, garage and basement. He was pleased with the plumber for disposing of his own soils. However, we do need another load of pea gravel for the porch and garage. That should come tomorrow. And then hopefully the weather holds and we can get some concrete in this week.

We were out at the property Friday, jumping up and down, while Tom and Mary Beth flew over. This is the best picture, but you can't see us.

We were also out at the property yesterday morning to cut down some more trees (we are told the truss truck will need more width on the driveway bend), pick up nails with the stick magnet and pick up garbage. Mike, The Carpenter, was also out and the final walls (for the pantry and laundry room) are now up.

We went out yet again this afternoon, to move all the material, that the carpenters had left, out of the attached garage so that we are ready for concrete. While removing the tarps we saw a tiny fury critter run away. So of course the boys were then on the hunt. The Great Mouse Hunt. Poor little fella got cornered and then hid behind a 2x4. The boys tried to "trap him" with cut offs. And dumped nails in on top of him. I felt kinda bad, but at least they were occupied for a good 1/2 hour while we moved the materials!

Happy Seventh of July from The Triple V

Hey folks, sorry I missed the 4th! Got lots of questions on whether we spent the whole weekend working at the property. The good (and bad) news is that we did not.
The OB has been ready for a roof since the prior weekend...we were just waiting on the 2nd floor of the house to be finished up so that the truss folks could come out and measure both at the same time.
As of last Thursday, the house is ready for measurements. My lumber yard contact told me no one was working Friday (the 3rd) so the measurements would be done Monday. Monday came and went, as did Tuesday. The new plan is for them to come out tomorrow morning. Then we wait about 5 days for them to be built and delivered. Everyone knows how much I LOVE to wait...
Looking from the master bedroom past the 2 walkin closets (to each side) into the master bathroom. Beyond is the back of the bonus room (where the window is).

This afternoon we met with the plumber to check out the basement and where all the mechanicals will go. He and the HVAC guy met earlier and made a good recommendation. So, the plumber will do the slab plumbing tomorrow and told me to call in the inspection for Friday. That's progress people!
I also have a call into the FB Bill (concrete guy) because we are ready for porch and house garage to be poured. And actually once we pass slab plumbing inspection we'll be ready for basement too!

Sidebar: Our electrician's name is Jim Smith and the plumber's name is Rob Johnson. No joke. Could these names be any more common! I almost thought they were kidding me.

Sidebar #2:  1st invoice from the lumberyard came. Cha-ching.

So don't expect much this week, but next week when the roof is going up and hopefully more of that beautiful (expensive) gray stuff is being poured, I should have some fun updates and pictures.

Nighty night.
